Godparent Information

Godparents

Godparents need to be an example for their godchild of how to live a full sacramental life.

Therefore, the Church requires godparents:

  • To be a Confirmed and practicing Catholic over 16 years old.
  • If godparents are married, they need to be married in the Catholic Church.
  • To attend Sunday Mass regularly.
  • Non-Catholic Christians may be on the record as “Christian witnesses” so long as they will support the parents in raising the child in the Catholic Faith, and there is, at least one Catholic sacramental godparent.

Process

  • First, complete the pre-registration form online.
  • Second, meet with Fr. Daniel (or a designated deacon). A copy of your child's birth certificate is required.
  • Third, attend the baptism preparation experience (first Sunday of the month).

If you are expecting a baby in the next few months, you may begin the pre-registration process and attend class before the baby is born.
